This one comes straight from the family recipe notebook, written in Grandma's careful hand. Mt. River Beans were a staple at every big family gathering — sweet, smoky, and always made in a pot large enough to feed a crowd.
Ingredients
- 1 large can pork & beans
- 1 lb bacon, diced
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 3/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cups brown sugar
Instructions
- Sauté onion and bacon together until the onion is soft and bacon is starting to crisp.
- Pour the juice from the beans and discard.
- Add beans to the bacon and onions.
- Add ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Add the brown sugar and stir until everything is hot and the sugar is dissolved.
