These soft, pillowy dinner rolls are one of the most-loved recipes in the family notebook. Grandma would start them in the morning and have them ready by dinnertime — the whole house would smell like fresh bread.
Ingredients
- 2 cups scalded milk
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 tbsp dry yeast
- About 5½ cups flour
Instructions
- Scald milk.
- Add margarine, sugar, and salt. Cool to lukewarm.
- Add beaten eggs and yeast.
- Gradually add flour, stirring about 10 minutes. Dough should be soft.
- Dust with flour and cover.
- Let rise 3 times, punching down between each rise.
- Shape into rolls. Let rise.
- Bake at 425°F for 10–15 minutes.
