Pulled from the family recipe notebook, this is Susan's white bread — the kind that filled the whole house with warmth on Saturday mornings. Her notes were specific about the Bosch mixer, and the result is a soft, pillowy loaf every time.
Ingredients
- 6 cups milk, heated lukewarm
- 1½ tbsp yeast
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1½ tbsp salt
- Approximately 12 cups flour
Instructions
- Combine the lukewarm milk, yeast, sugar, butter, oil, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add 10 cups of flour and mix for a few minutes until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Run the Bosch mixer on setting "2."
- Gradually add more flour until the bowl is clean and the dough pulls away from the sides.
- Knead for 10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise, shape into loaves, and place in greased pans.
- Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
