Found in the family recipe notebook in Grandma's neat handwriting, these cardamom-scented sweet rolls were Elna's pride. The kitchen always smelled like heaven when a batch was rising on the counter.
Ingredients
- 1½ liters milk, lukewarm
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 2 tsp cardamom
- 3 tbsp yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 8–10 cups flour
- Egg wash
- Sugar for topping
- Butter, sugar & cinnamon for filling
Instructions
- Combine lukewarm milk, melted butter, cardamom, yeast, and salt.
- Gradually add flour until you have a soft dough.
- Let rise until doubled.
- Roll out thin, spread with butter, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up and cut into rolls.
- Let rise again.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake at 375°F for 9–11 minutes.
