From the family recipe notebook — this rich, fudgy sheet cake was always the first dessert to disappear at potlucks. Frost it while it's still warm and let the chocolate soak right in.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Mix flour and sugar together in a large bowl.
- In a saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa. Bring to a boil.
- Pour the hot mixture over the flour and sugar. Stir well.
- Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Bake at 400°F for 25–30 minutes.
- Frost while still warm.
