Ingredients
- 1/3 cup butter or shortening
- 1¾ cups flour
- 2½ tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted (for the bottom of the pan)
- Grated cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 475°F.
- Cut the butter (or shortening) into the flour, baking powder, and salt until the mixture is crumbly.
- Add milk and stir until the dough just comes together.
- Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into sticks.
- Sprinkle grated cheese on top of the dough if desired.
- Place the sticks in the prepared pan.
- Bake at 475°F for about 15 minutes, until golden brown on top.
